SCRIBBLES & SCARS
Cory’s most recent solo exhibition, titled Scribbles & Scars, showcased new work discussing caring for her daughter’s hardest phases of treatment for Neuroblastoma (an often high risk childhood cancer, in her daughter’s case it was high risk stage 4). She began creating the work in this show while her daughter was getting her first of two bone marrow transplants, requiring months in the hospital in a special room designed for kids without an immune system and then through 12 sessions of radiation and another 6 rounds of immunotherapy. These last phases of her daughter’s treatment were extremely difficult, her having almost died during the second transplant and requiring a month long Pediatric ICU stay.
Even with the heaviness of the experience and the work birthed from it, Cory has kept using bright colors and scribbles from her kids incorporated in the pieces.
